Aftermath of Hurricane Matthew
Dear SCPA Community,
In the days since Hurricane Matthew’s impact on South Carolina, it has become clear that many coastal and inland communities have seen significant, and is some cases devastating damage. Dislocation of people in these areas continues and a return to normal life may take weeks or months for those affected. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Psychological Association we offer our good thoughts and prayers to those of you who have been impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
Events like this do not discriminate, and we recognize that many of the dislocated may be members or our profession or other behavioral health providers. We encourage SCPA members to utilize this list-serve for offers of aid to colleagues, or requests for assistance by those of you impacted. Assistance can come in many forms – the offer of temporary office space, consultation on difficult cases, professional and emotional support, or potential referral resources, to name a few. It is at times like this that psychology can truly demonstrate it is a force for healing and good – it is also a time at which we can come to one another’s aid to leverage our collective strength.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish you all a speedy return to normalcy.
